New Orleans has long been a city defined by stories. Its music carries generations of

people who call it home. With Shadows and Thorns, Cypress Key continue that
tradition, delivering a thoughtful and emotionally resonant EP that examines

Released on 19th June 2026, Shadows and Thorns serves as a four-song introduction
to the forthcoming full-length album Path to Redemption. While the larger project
promises a broader exploration of life in the American South, this EP focuses on the
more intimate and reflective aspects of that journey, creating a collection rooted in
acoustic instrumentation, honest storytelling and emotional depth.
At the heart of Cypress Key is New Orleans-born musician, producer and songwriter
Mazz. After spending a decade in New York City immersed in a wide range of musical
environments, from the punk energy of The Pests to the genre-crossing sounds of
acoustic hip-hop collective Panda City, Mazz returned to Louisiana carrying a wealth of
experience and a renewed desire to document the realities of his upbringing.
That sense of place is woven deeply throughout Shadows and Thorns.
